Turns out David Villa isn't the only one who prefer's to putt from the rough over there at Barcelona FC.
The current treble holders and recent winners of the UEFA Super Cup have long been the focus of speculation regarding the sexuality of many of their top line stars including David Villa - who we all know is well and truly out of the closet, but now fresh rumours regarding Lionel Messi and surprisingly Gerard Pique, whose relationship with former team mate Zlaten Ibrahimovic has apparently taken a turn for the worst.

However former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed that the pressure from the footballing world to once again achieve such honours could work against the famous club.

"The pressure of winning all three titles - again - could be so much that they walk away with nothing." Laporta stated.

"It takes skill, a great team and plenty of luck - all of which Barcelona had last season - and I am not sure that this is possible all over again."

Depsite starting the season slowly, Barce seem to be picking up pace now and have edged past arch rivals Real on the La Liga ladder - and are currently undeated in the Champions League from two games.

"Hopefully they take it one game at a time - I would hate for pressure of success to be their downfall."!

Despite two defeats from their last three games, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho believes his side have what it takes to go the rest of the season undefeated.

"We have played confidently and been comfortable all season until two separate mistakes cost us dearly." Mourinho said yesterday

"I am confident that this is something he will never do again."
A statement in reference to the two howler errors Madrid captain and Keeper Iker Casillas made, including a bad touch from a back pass and a misguided throw from the edge of his box, both of which led to goals and defeats.

"As I have said all along, we will challenge for all trophies once again this season - but my goal is Eurpoe - we will be kings of Europe once again."

In addition to Torres, Chelsea continued their extensive deadline day spending with the £21.3 million signing of Benfica's Brazilian defender David Luiz.

Luiz, 23, was named Portugal's Player of the Year for 2010 as he helped Benfica win the domestic Double and has carved out a reputation as a defender of some repute since joining the club in 2007.

At Chelsea, he will compete with John Terry and fellow Brazilian Alex for a place in the heart of Carlo Ancelloti's defence.

 

And over in Liverpool, they have officially confirmed the signing of Ajax and Uruguay star Luis Suarez on a contract until the summer of 2016. Suarez joins the club for a fee that could reach €26.5 million (£22.7 million) and takes the No. 7 shirt made famous by his new manager, Kenny Dalglish.

 

Super Cup means nothing!

The arrogance of Pep Guardiola is once again making headlines - with his comments regarding how little winning the European Super Cup for a 2nd time has meant to his champion side.

"I couldn't care less...neither could my players."

This coming on the back of recent comments from Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho who proclaimed after the tournament's completion that the Super Cup meant nothing to him, his players or their fans.

The comments of Pep and Jose have now caused competition organisers to re-think the current format once again - with rumours of a Champions Cup style round-robin tournament between Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United making a come back.

Ronaldo: I'm not obsessed with Messi

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo insists he is not jealous of Lionel Messi and stressed that he doesn't "have an obsession" with the Barcelona ace.

Ronaldo and Messi have both been in exceptional form for their respective clubs in recent seasons - and the pair's goalscoring records are spectacular, but it would seem Messi - has had more to celebrate at the moment with Barcelona claiming the Treble in Season 1 of 2011.

The Argentinian maestro also claimed the inaugural FIFA Ballon d'Or earlier this month, while Ronaldo missed out on the final shortlist - though he did retain his place in the FIFA World XI.

But despite missing out on recent individual awards, Ronaldo says he holds no ill-feeling towards Messi and insists that he is solely focused on his own target of winning silverware with Real this season.

I don't have an obsession or a direct rivalry with Messi," Ronaldo told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I feel the same way about other players. But, one thing is certain: I want to be the best of all footballers.

"I don't envy Messi at all. My priority is to win La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid, not Ballon d'Or awards."

Madrid signs Adebayor on loan

MADRID – Real Madrid has signed Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy the Togolese striker.

The signing of Adebayor is a clear sign that Real Madrid intend to emulate the achievemets of their great and most fiercest of rivals Barcelona by winning the Treble in the upcoming season.

Season 2, 2011 begins in early February.
