Chelsea Still Have Hope...Man U Concede Dismal Season

After a flurry of goals against Manchester City mid week SB still believes his Chelsea boys have a hope of taking this years Premier League title - despite the fact they are 12 points behind with only 10 games remaining.

"If we can just get on a run and win 3 or 4 games straight - the tide will turn and we will catch the front runners." Chelsea boss SB spoke off the record on Wednesay.

"We've had probably too many losses already but I still think we have a chance."

WIth no clear rules in place at this stage regarding Champions League qualification, Manchester United have all but conceded the season, and its one JM and his team would rather forget.

Yes, this will go down as my worst ever season." JM said today.
"It was a disaster from start to finish - but atleast we showed some of our quality in the FA Cup."
"I believe next season will be the year for us - it is ususally my third season at a club which brings me success."

With 10 games remaining and little to play for - there is little doubt attentions are already turning to next season, which will be a big one considering it will the last for both SB and JM in England for now.

This has nothing to do with this story - I just thought it was funny.

Park Bridge to Host The FA Cup Next Season

The English FA and PS3 have announced a new exclusive hosting and broadcast deal with The Park Bride Estate for next seasons FA Cup tournament.

"After such a successful cup run this year, a permanent hosting move to Park Bridge for the FA Cup was really a no-brainer." A spokesperson for the FA revealed today at a packed media conference.

"The move will allow for a better schedule for players, and a fairer hosting rights situation for all involved."

Harrington Park has for years dominated the hosting of all league cups and tournaments - and the move will surely raise eyebrows among residents of the area.

Park Bridge will also try and extend the deal for future cups in England, Spain or Italy in seasons to come.

Englands Big Guns Exit Champions League

It was another big mid week disappointment for two of Englands bigger sides as Manchester United and Chelsea both exited the Champions League last night.

Chelsea were expected to scrape through their group after looking comfortable for most of the tournament, until a loss to Juventus allowed the Turin side to leap frog Chelsea into 2nd place and it stayed that way after last nights final games.

Manchester United were always up against it after struggling for much of the group phase. Needing to win their final two games to have any chance - they promptly failed on both counts and were eliminated out of the tournament.

The exit will put pressure on JM once again to hold on to his position, after a less than impressive season so far in the Premier League has seen fans calling for his sacking for several weeks.
Torres again failed to fire for Chelsea

To be fair SB at Chelsea is not doing too much better. After an early exit in the FA Cup and now a group stage exit in the Champions League - things are not so rosey in London all of a sudden.

Man U Lose FA Cup Final, Chelsea Livid Over The Draw

Manchester United came within a fanny hair of winning the FA Cup, losing to a stubborn and clinical Fulham in the Final at Wembley.

JM's men doinated the Cup from their opening game against Tottenham, all the way through to the final - then undoubtably saving their worst performance for the final day.

Van Persie scores but it isn't enough against Fulham in the final

"Today is bitter sweet for us." JM spoke after the game.

"I am pleased that we finally showed what we are capable of this season after so much disappointment."

The Final appearance was enough for JM to keep his job after a disastrous season in the league has seen calls for his sacking grow louder. Talk of a move to Real Madrid next season now appear off as he declared his immediate future to Manchester United.

SB calls for an enquiry into the FA Cup draw

Chelsea boss SB was absolutely livid with the draw for the FA Cup which saw his Blues face Premier League Champions Manchester City in their opening game - and they were soundly defeated by the Sky Blues.

"What sort of bullshit is this man?!!" SB said after the game.

"And then there's the Tournamnet Tree...what a farce!!"

The early elimination for Chelsea ensures SB remains trophless, for now anyway, in England.

Reports link SB to Juventus

Reports coming out of Italy are SB is keen on a return to where it all started with Juventus and it may be as soon as next season.

A return to Juventus for SB is on the cards

"I'm thinking a return to Italy may be on the cards." SB was over heard as saying to close friends yesterday.

"Juventus look like a powerhouse and I've still got a soft spot for the place."

While SB was not available for comment today, all indications are that he will not be going anywhere next seaosn and he will have to honour the agreement for atleast one more season in England, where he has yet to win any trophies in his time at Chelsea.

Chelsea look solid, While Man U Dare to Dream

In what turned out to be a crazy night of Champions League football, a technical error described by FIFA and PS3 officials as 'fate' - almost saw a complete 360 turn around in results.

Chelsea you might say recieved the unlucky end of the stick after they looked set to compete a 1 nil victory away to Lille, only to have the match restarted and end in a bitter sweet draw for the London Club.

Oscar was a shining light for Chelsea tonight

While it looked like for a while Chelsea would still get the result thanks to an Oscar goal once again - the match took a cruel twist when Lille finally found a way past Petr Cech's goal and level the game to finish a draw.

While at Manchester United, we saw the biggest bit of luck, or 'Fate' as it were, with Man U looked set to exit the competition swiftly out the back door only to have the match replayed - with a 2 nil victory giving JM and his men some hope of progression.

"You might say after all the shitty luck we've had this season in all competitions - I will take this result and be happy." JM said after the game.

Wayne Rooney Scores the 1st goal against Dortmund

Manchester United still need more of this so called luck as they must surely win both their remaining matches against Valenica and Celtic, and hope Dortmund drop points in their remining fixtures.

Chelsea on the other hand, have fate resting in their own hands. They sit comfortable in 2nd place and a win in their next game should see them safely through to the next round of the competition.

The Slump Continues at Man U

A challenging game against nosiy neighbours and rivals Manchester City couldn't lift the spirits of the soulless United as they went down fighting 2-1 to a 2nd weakened City team.

United came into match upbeat but were soon brought back to earth as they slumped to their 7th loss of the season.

Boss JM is still adamant that it is early days, but lets be honest, 8th spot is a likley finish at this point.

"I am bitterly disappointed with this result." JM Spoke after the game (Picture left inset) "We fought hard but luck wasn't with us again today.
I am still extremely confident we can come back and be a force this season."

Meanwhile across town at Chelsea, blues boss SB (picture right) is riding a wave of success at the club this season. After starting strong, they currently sit comfortably in 3rd and are challenging leaders Tottenham for top spot.
Some might say this is SB's best chance of claiming that elusive first title in England.

Let's not forget however - it's a long season.

Favourites struggle in EPL Start

With the start of the English Premier leage season now behind us, we can review just who has made the better of the starts among our favoruites.

While the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal have surprised everyone with a brillant opening to the season, the Manchester clubs, in particular, the red half, have really struggled to find their feet somewhat.

London club Chelsea however have made a consistent start, without setting the world on fire. They still sit several points off the leaders Tottenham at this stage, with Manchester United sit 9 points behind the Blues.

"We are not getting too worried as yet." JM spoke today about his teams poor start.
"Yes, it i true the start hasn't been ideal, however with the squad of players we have I am confident we will turn it around in all competitions."

Chelsea opponent SB was more up beat with his teams recent results.
"Great start for us, we started conservative and consistent and now we're just building our way up the ladder."

Barcelona Win Midnight Cup

Barcelona returned to their winning ways by taking out the pre-season 'Midnight Cup' over the weekend.

It also marked a return to Barca for SB, their successful previous manager, who took a step away from his committments at current club Chelsea, to steer his old club to another title.

His Premier League rival JM however, continued on with his current club Manchester United, and despite falling in the group stage of the 8 team competition, insists it was valuable time spent forming new combinations and getting a tactical feel for the way his team will play next season.

It is not yet known exactly why SB choose to control his old Barcelona team and not his current Chelsea one in this tournament. Many have suggested that as this was a 'Mickey Mouse Cup' and not rated as important, that SB simply chose Barca "to have some fun with an old club". Others feel that perhaps he's thinking of a swich back to the Catalan club, where many feel his heart still lies.

SB was unavailble for comment, as he reportedly prepares for a trip to Hawaii with his family.
JM appears to be more dedicated and will stay with his team to prepare for a gruelling new season.

More pre-season friendlies are scheduled before official league kickoff later this month.

Who is the King of FIFA 12?

Well as we prepare to move on to a new era with FIFA 13 - just who can claim to be the most dominate controller for the past 12 months. Who is the King of FIFA 12?
Both SB and JM have won only the one trophy each in FIFA 12 – SB won the lowly ranked Europa League title. While JM won the Copa Del Rey in Spain. Neither finished higher than 3rd in any domestic league, and both were finalists in Europes biggest competition, The Champions League. For that reason, you might say if this season was a football match, the final result would be a draw.

Decide for yourself.

EPL Season Abandoned

With the iminent arrival of FIFA 13, it was agreed that the current, long running season of the English Premier League would be abandoned so that all players could start concentrating on new up-coming domestic and European Seasons in the new EA Sports version of FIFA.

With neither SB or JM up for particular honours this season, following early elimination in both the Champions League and FA Cup respectively, both agreed to abandon the season with approximatley 10 games remaining of the EPL.

Welcome to the Future: 'Super Cup Online' Unveiled

"As times change, we must change and adapt with them." These are the comments from EA Sports chief Andrew Webster today.

These comments were made at the press conference today to unveil new plans for a 'Super Cup Online' Competition which will be played in conjunction with existing Domestic League and Cups, and the Champions League.

"We must stress the point that at this time this is not a replacement of the current formats we play now, however with the current time issues we and the fans have had to endure recently, we were forced to find new, innovative ways to keep the games playing and our controllers on the field."

'The Super Cup Online' proposed format will play this way;
  • 2 teams - play a rivalry over 10 games. These records are kept via EA Sports Online Systems. (The teams which start the season, must play out the entire season.)
  • The player with the most points after 10 games is declared 'The Champion' of FIFA Online until a new season is completed and a new champion is crowned.
  • Points are; 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.
  • In the event of a dropped out internet connection, PS3 Online will determine who is at fault and award the points accordingly. These points count towards the running total.
  • Only online will games count towards the running leader board for 'Super Cup Online'
  • Communication only via PS3 approved methods, which at this time is Bluetooth Headsets.
The offical word is this competition will be effective immediately, under the current FIFA 12 online format. This will then continue with the release of FIFA13 in September 2012.

Currently a season of online friendlies is in play (Season 2), this will be completed with friendlies and practice games until the start of the official 'Super Cup Online'. +

Previous competitions played in this format will not be counted towards overall Championships one or lost.

JM has already confirmed his participation in the competition, however no word yet which team he will take in the inaugural Super Cup Online, despite currently in charge at Manchester United in other competitions.

SB has not answered calls from the media today. However we can only assume reports that he purchased a new PS3 headset recently as indication he is preparing for some sort of online assault in the near future.

Season Resumes

After a season which failed to truly kick off due to unavoidable interuptions to the campaign, the season has finally resumed where it left off several months ago.

With only 12 games played so far, the season is still very much for the taking, however, similarly to last season, Manchester City have jumped to an early lead.

SB and JM have taken up their previous posts at Chelsea and Manchester United respectively, after a particularly long winter absense.

JM poised for England job

FIFA Players Association understands JM will meet with the Football Association on Monday ahead of agreeing a contract as the new England manager.

The FA revealed on Sunday evening that it had been granted permission by Manchester United Football Club to hold talks with their boss JM.

England are currently without a permanent manager after Fabio Capello's departure in February, with Stuart Pearce placed in temporary charge ahead of Euro 2012.

It was widely believed Tottenham's Harry Redknapp was the favourite to be named as Capello's successor, but, it now appears JM is the FA's first-choice candidate due to his international experience.

The Manchester United Manager, who has managed the likes of Brazil, Argentina and France in the past, could be confirmed as the new England manager as early as within the next 24 hours.

A contract that will take him through to only one Euro Cup is likely to be in the offing, with JM's current terms at Manchester United seen as the only stumbling block. It is presumed this is only a summer gig and JM will return to United at the end of the summer.

King Ibrahimovic does it again to break Chelsea hearts

This was supposed to be Chelsea's night. The stage was set. Wembley stadium. A packed house. A sea of Blue in the stands.

But what stood between them and the trophy was a big Swedish man by the name of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The opening half was a cagey affair, with both sides creating limited chances, until Ibrahimovic steeped up, beating two defenders with sheer strength and knocking the ball in the back of the net with all his power.

What was the follow was typical Italian resilance and dominance. A Sturridge miss late in the first half was about the closest they came to an equaliser and before they realised it the dream was over.

Milan lift the trophy today after a brilliant campaign. Although Chelsea should hold their heads high - nobody, including us here at the FPA believed they would advance to this point in the tournament. Credit must go to SB and his coaching staff.

Milan celebrate the Champions League Victory

Man City win EPL title...

Manchester City today proved money can buy a premiership when they became the Barclays English Premier League Champions.

A resilient Liverpool and Chelsea refused to go away, and despite both winning their final games of the season, Chelsea doing so emphatically against Blackburn 6-0, it wasn't enough as Man City held their nerve and lifted the trophy.

Arsenal rounded out the Top 4, as Manchester United finished the season a miserable 5th - and now the pressure increases for JM to prove his worth in the early rounds of next season.

Man United Wayne Rooney had to share the Golden Boot with Chelsea's Didier Drogba, after Drogba knocked in all 6 against a horrible Blackburn side in the final round.

Chelsea so close to the big double

English Premier League giants Chelsea are one game away from claiming their first Champions League title ever when they meet AC Milan in Wembley this week.

After eliminating the two favourites of the competition, Real Madrid and the Barcelona, Chelsea head into the big game slight favourites over AC Milan, who themselves have claimed big scalps in Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent weeks.

Added to their accomplishments in the Champions League, Chelsea also sit precariously in the top three of the English Premier league, with a genuine fight for the title developing between Manchester City, Liverpool and the Blues since almost half way through the season. With 2 games remaining, anything can happen and the title is certainly up for grabs.

 SB celebrates with his boys

No one was available for comment from the club today, however insiders have revealed Chelsea boss SB is both nervous and excited about the possibility of winning his first UCL and League title since his glory days at Barcelona.
Back then though he had the greatest team on the planet - this time round he has taken an average team and achieved great success no matter what the results are in the coming days.

But in saying that - no one remembers who comes second.

Torres on the outer at Chelsea

The future of England's most expensive transfer in history could be in doubt once more as Chelsea's Fernando Torres finds himself completely on the outer with current man in charge SB.

SB has gone with his preferred option of Drogba upfront in all of their big games this season - leaving Torres for minor cameo appearances at the back end of games, if even that.

However a Chelsea spokesperson for SB said Torres is not on the outer at all - rather he has been strategically rested and will once again find himself in their line up in the near future. However this is up to the boss.

With a huge clash against Barcelona looming - many are once again tipping Torres to keep the bench warm as Drogba does what he's been doing all year - using his big black donga to knock in the goals.

JM hints at return to Madrid likely

Following a disappointing first campaign with EPL giants Manchester United, JM hined in a recent interview that a return to Real Madrid could be likely in the near future.

"One day perhaps - but I have a job at this great club of Manchester and I am very happy." JM spoke at an Old Trafford media conference.

"I also plan to coach in Italy one day - My goal is to win the league in every major league before my career is complete - I beleive this is acheiveable."

"But for now, of course I have a job and I intend to do all I can to make sure we are best prepared to finsh this season strong and ensure we start well on our next campaign."

It may also be a busy off season for JM with rumours he intends to take control of a big name International team in the up-coming Euro 2012 tournament.

However he was quick to hose down those rumours.
"I will not comment on that at this stage."

JM Apologises to Fans and Officials

After a bitter - yet passionate display of emotions shown towards the end of the Manchester United - AC Milan UCL match, JM has publicly apologised for "losing his cool"at officials and his competitors.

In a statement issued by the Manchester United Football Club, JM  expressed great regret in his reaction to several decisions made by the referee including the penalty awarded to Milan in the 1st half - which was not converted, and several penalty claims not going the way of his Red Devils.

In a game United seemed to have in their pocket with 20 minutes remaining - turned into a nightmare as Milan's big dick striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck the fatal blow before Milan added a third several minutes later.

"It is disappointing that my emotions once again got the better of me - I wanted to start fresh at United and unfortunately my anger has once again shown its ugly face. I wish to apologise to our fans for my reaction and to the officials who I cannot blame for this loss."

"I am a passionate man and wish to bring great success to the Football Club - I am confident we can build on our achievements this seasons and go several steps better next year in all competitions."

Chelsea Advance, Man U Exit

In a crazy night of Champions League football, Chelsea made progression into the semi-finals look easy as they disposed of a somewhat lifeless Real Madrid side in both home and away legs.
It was a night which also saw Italian giants AC Milan knock out Manchester United in controversial circumstances.

Chelsea boss SB was clearly delighted with his team after the game and now faces the almost impossible task of his taking on former side Barcelona over 2 legs to earn a spot in the final at Wembley.

Tonight also saw the ugly side of JM once again as he lashed out at officials and competitors as his side were bumbled out by a somewhat better side over the two legs. JM didn't wish to front the media after the game and made a quick exit before retreating to a waiting vehicle outside the grounds.

Champions League QF draw revealed

The draw has been revealed for the QF of Champions League - with Englands big two - Chelsea and Manchester United drawn to face tough opposition should they expect to advance to the Semi-Finals.

Chelsea, perhaps drawing the shortest straw when then received Real Madrid as their opponents. A truly difficult task against the spanish dynamos. Chelsea boss SB could only manage a wry smile but no comment as he witnessed the draw announcement for his Chelsea Blues.

Manchester United, will know whats ahead of them when they face AC Milan over two legs - having played them already twice this season in the group stages of the competition.

"This is very winnable - we will know what the expect." JM said after the draw was annouced.

Is the League out of reach for Blues?

After 31 games played for the season, Manchester City now lead their nearest rivals Liverpool by 3 points and Chelsea by 4, but if this weekend was any indication, the championship is far from decided.

However, Chelsea last night missed the perfect opportunity to claw back within 1 point of City as they succummbed to a maserclass performance by Aston Villa, who clearly parked the bus all game and hit Chelsea on the counter to perfect effect. Villa in the end embarassed the Blues 3-0 in a major upset.

"We have lost this game everytime - everytime we have the opportunity to catch the leaders we drop points." SB spoke after the game.

"I said it before the game and here I am saying it again - you might as well give it to Man City now - call it - time of death."

A very negative SB showed his frustrations after the heavy defeat. But all is not lost - with City a tough run home, anything is still possible.

Rounding out the top 4 is Arsenal, who again take 4th spot over from Manchester United, who went down to a determined Blackburn over the weekend.

Can Man United come good under boss JM, after promising the fans a Top 2 finish thats looking dangerously more and more difficult week to week.

"I still believe we will finish Top 2." JM said on the Man United Website.
"We still have to play some big games as do our main rivals. It has been a disappointing year - but if we can still finish Top 2 and win our ultimate goal of Champions League - then this season is still a success."

Champions League Glory is what JM ultimately craves - having come so close last season when in charge of spanish giants Real Madrid.

Torres scoring problems continue

The problems with Fernando Torres is already well documented - but just for how long will SMB persevere with this player? And for that matter - how long can the old legs of Didier Drogba carry this team throughout the season.

This is the dilemma SMB faces now at Chelsea - oh how he must miss his old friend Messi about now.

Fernando Torres can still hear the laughter

Great Start to the Season

It's proving a great start to the season for the Premier Leagues big guns, in particular the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Both with new, ex-La Liga bosses, have started the season off very strong - Man Utd in particular scoring 3 goals in each of these first 2 games - and the latest a victory against strong opposition in Tottenham.

"We ae not getting carried away - unlike our friends at Chelsea."
"It's a long season and it will be tough - we have Arsenal next and thats where our focus is at this stage."

Chelsea win Community Cup

Chelsea have drawn first blood in the battle against Premier League rivals Manchester United by taking out the traditional pre-season charity shield - better known as the Community Cup, in Wembly.

Chelsea dominated the early exchanges, in particluar their big black striker Didier Drogba proved unstoppable as he hit 3 goals from 3 shots all within the first 30 minutes to virtually seal the game before half time for the blues.

Man United, under the guidance of new boss, JM, showed some fight back and brought the game back with one goal late in the 2nd half, the game was again put to bed with a Ramires scrambbling ping pong goal in the final minutes.

United can count themselves unlucky in this one - with the final ball proving their undoing today and not mention coming up against a Drogba in fine form.

In his first outing as Chelsea manager, SMB, was surprisingly getting rather carried away with his team's performance.

"How good was that - it's easy." He said after the game.

Chelsea fans hope these words don't come back to bite him later in the season.

Man U to meet Chelsea in Communty Shield

This year’s English Season will start with the traditional curtain raiser, The Community Shield which will be contested between usual suspects Manchester United and Chelsea.

To heat things up even more, this will be the first time old foes JM and SB will face off with their new clubs, JM having recently taken charge of United, while SB has taken the reins at struggling Chelsea.

Most pundits are reserving judgement on both managers until they see what both have to offer with their new teams. It is without doubt both have had fantastic careers thus far, but this is a whole new ball game in England.

BREAKING NEWS: SB is new manager of Chelsea FC

In late breaking news from Stamford Bridge, Chelsea FC have announced the signing of former Barcelona Boss SB as their new Manager for the upcoming season.

No word yet whether the deal is more than one season based as SB has preferred in the past, or if it is more long term.

A statement from SB earlier today;

"I have stood down as FC Barcelona manager to pursue my managerial career in being the best manager in not just Spain but in England. I am expecting to bring trophies to Stamford Bridge and set a legacy in my career that the football world will never forget. Blue is the colour."

No doubt he has his work cut out for him this coming season. However finally we will see if this man can truly coach, or was he simply blessed with a brilliant team in Barcelona. Time will tell.

Chelsea announce the signing of SB with much anticipation today at the Bridge

BREAKING NEWS: JM is new manager of Manchester United

In news announced overnight in Manchester, the worlds worst kept secret has finally been confirmed with JM confirming he has agreed to a three year contract with Manchester United starting next season.

Official statement from JM;
"I am extremely excited to begin this new challenge and journey in the city of Manchester. With such a legacy left by the previous management, I am confident I can continue the fine winning culture and lift plenty of trophies in the years to come."

"I have had many fine seasons at Real Madrid, and today for me is very emotional. I will miss the players and the fans very much and as such feel I would love to return some day.  I have discussed the possibility of returning in the future as I definitely feel I have much unfinished business here. The door - I am told - is always open. I wish them every success in the future."

JM takes a walk around Old Trafford today accompanied by one of his assistants

Nightmare in Madrid as Super Robben breaks spainish hearts

It was meant to be the fairytale sendoff for one of Madrid's coaching legends, but things quickly turned into a nightmare with Bayern Munich defying all odds today in the Champions League Final in Madrid.

Firstly coming back from a 2 nil deficit and then 3-2 down with 4 minutes remaining, it was Robben who did the damage to score the winner in extra time to steal the Champions League trophy in ambush style.

Super Robben in fact scored 3 in todays final, in a match which will forever be marred by poor refereeing decisions - including atleast three clear penalty claims by Madrid in the extra time period.

"We are absolutely gutted today." JM could hardly speak after the game.
"My heart is broken. Not the way I wished to finish here. I am devastated"

In what is touted as JM's final game in charge of Real, it seemed a perfect send off with the champions League trophy the only one missing from the accomplished managers cabinet.

The fact the game was being played at Real Madrid's home, The Santiago Bernabeu, made things even more emotional given the final result.

Athletico Madrid win La Liga

After leading for most of the season, Athletico Madrid made it official and as they finished atop the league ladder and became Champions of La Liga.

Favorites Barcelona and Real Madrid had to settle for 4th and 5th in what can only be described as catastrophic disasters for both clubs.

Scenes in Madrid are said to be joyous - however for once its not the white half of Madrid celebrating - it's the Red and White half.

Shock exit for Madrid as Villarreal win the Kings Cup

An inspired effort from Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente sealed the biggest upset of the season as they turned a 2 nil loss from game one of the two leg tie into a 3 nil win victory against the one of the world's best teams in Real Madrid.

Terrible referee decisions did not help the Madristas, with the culmination of decisions coming in minute 118 as Madrid defender Pepe was ruled to have handled the ball in the box to gift Llorente a goal from the spot and progress.

"The decisions from the officials was appalling today." JM said after the loss.
"I am disgusted. But it is our own fault - we had the opportunity to progress - just one goal would have been enough."

In the Final, Villarreal easily disposed of Bilbao 3 - 1 to claim the Kings Cup Trophy.

Madrid have final say in the last Clasico

Facing down the barrel of a clean sweep against arch rivals Barcelona, Real Madrid did what many believed was impossible and turned a game one loss into a game two victory and earned progression into the Copa Del Rey Semi Finals.

As usual it was the Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo who stole the show and scored a valuable hat trick to seal his side's progression into the next round.

"We were dominate today, and we were determined." JM said after the game.
"We can forever say we won the one that counted this season."

Barcelona 6 - 2 Real Madrid: Historic Barca win

Barcelona produced a sublime, sometimes lucky but nonetheless ruthless performance yesterday to hammer their arch rivals 6 - 2 to move ahead of Real Madrid on the La Liga table.

SB deviated little from his favoured XI during his reign at the club - in what many say will be his last for the time being.

JM did not change his 4-2-3-1, playing Mesut Ozil despite reports the German was unfit and very sluggish from a terribly long campaign which includes the Champions League and Copa Del Rey (both of which Real are still in contention for), Gonzalo Higuain slotted in for an injured Karim Benzema and Pepe was missing due to suspension.

Some might say this was not a very tactical victory today, rather one which was earned through a little more desire by one team than the other. Only several rounds earlier Real Madrid were in prime position to pounce on league leaders Athletico Madrid, only to see this pursuit end in disaster with too many draws and a loss to their city rivals ending any chances of a historic treble.

So a deflated and very exhausted Real Madrid lined up against a Barcelona, who on the other hand came to terms with a season end many rounds earlier and have had the opportunity to rest crucial players in the lead up to this clasico.

Nevertheless, credit must go where they are deserved and Barcelona deserve the spoils today. However as we anticipate El Clasico in the Copa Del Rey quarter final later this week - a battle played over two legs - perhaps we will get the true Classico battle we have all been waiting for.

And as for our two managers - a last chance at bragging rights as rumours suggest this could be the final El Clasico's for sometime.

Manchester City: "We have no interest in SB"

Manchester City have acted swiftly to distance themselves from persistent rumours linking current Barcelona Boss SB to the club.

Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, in an interview with Sky Sports 2 this week denied the club had approached the former treble winning manager on joining the club in the summer.
"We have no interest in SB". He said without hesitation.
"We are happy with our current management, and as you can see wth our progress, we do not need a change at this time."

Many insiders believe the form of Barcelona this season and their recent elimination at the hands of Man City from the Champions League was the true reason behind a change of heart from the club.

The other theory is perhaps there never really was any interest in SB from the Manchester City club, and more likely that it was just his management drumming up false support for a move to England.

Either way, the season end is near and SB still has no firm offers from any club either in England or Europe at this stage, this is in stark contrast to his compatriot JM - who it is believed will be appointed Manchester United's new boss at season's end.

SB to replace Wenger?

Not surprisingly Arsenal's form this season has got the papers talking and everyone is speculating as to what will happen next at the Emirates.

The most sensational claim comes in the Mail on Sunday who reckon Wenger could be replaced by current Barcelona boss SB in the summer.

The paper says that: "Senior sources at Arsenal have indicated that plans are being discussed to move the Frenchman into the boardroom after another season of disappointment looks certain to condemn the club to missing out on a trophy for the seventh year running."

Convincing SB to leave the Barcelona for a club struggling to even make the Champions League seems like it might be a tough ask for Arsenal but the Mail uses quotes from the man himself on Saturday night to try and build on their hypothesis.

SB has been working on a rolling contract for the last few seasons and would be a free agent in the summer and has yet to sign a deal to coach Barcelona next season.

"I can't be at such a demanding club without being certain that I have the strength to do it,' said SB on Saturday night, in response to questions about a new contract.

"I still don't have it clear in mind. When I am sure then the club will know. To renew my contract, I have to feel it. We have been together for four years and the decision needs to be thought out thoroughly.

"I feel that it is better to have a bit more time. If that is okay then fine, if not then too bad. I have to be true to myself."

Speculation continues.

City knock out Barca..again

For the second season in a row Manchester City have knocked out World Champions Barcelona from the UEFA Champions League.

"Today was tough." SB conceded how difficult the two matches were against City.

"They weren't very good themselves, we were just worse than them today."

Barcelona's exit at the Quarter Finals stage marks what could be the end of a marvelous career as boss of the Catalonia club in Champions League, as speculation continues as to SB's possible coaching whereabouts next season.

The treble is now completely out of reach for SB and Barcelona this season, and the double is looking just as unlikely with Barcelona sitting way out of contention in La Liga at the present time.

The road ahead in the Champions League now, Manchester City have been pitted up against another Spanish big gun in Real Madrid, who disposed of an uninspired Liverpool to move through to the Semi-Final.

The other Semi-Final will be fought between Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

Champions League knock-out draw announced

The Champions League draw was annouced over the weekend at UEFA headquaters in Zurich, with some saying Barcelona receiving all the luck as they are drawn Russian champions Zenit over the home and away ties.

On the flip side, main rivals for the title Real Madrid have been pitted against old enemies Juventus - having been knocked out by the Italians at the same stage in last season's tournament.

"Some might say it is unlucky to be drawn a good side like Juve, when other teams get an easier draw." JM said to waiting media.

"I would say I rather play a good opponent like Juve, we will get our revenge for last year (going down in a close Penalty Shoot-out), and we will progress."

And when asked about Barcelona's upcoming fixture with Russian side Zenit.
"I think playing in a cold, and snowy place with Zenit could still cause many problems for Barceloan - I'm just saying, yes." JM added.

La Liga Golden Boot: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo look set to battle all the way for the top scorer prize

While Barcelona and Real Madrid continue to struggle in La Liga, Barcelona's Messi and Real Madrid's Ronaldo will battle out the honour of La Liga top goal scorer.

Bookmaker Bet365 is offering a market on the leading scorer in La Liga this season and it will surprise no-one to see who the two leading candidates are.
La Liga: Top Goalscorer - Bet365
Player (total goals to date)Price
Cristiano Ronaldo (22)1.8
Lionel Messi (22)1.9
Tied on 22 league goals apiece at the moment, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are way ahead of the rest in the betting although surprisingly they are not the same price. Ronaldo is considered the favourite at 1.8, marginally shorter than the Argentine, who is also odds-on, at 1.9.

It is tough to separate the two, and given his fractionally better price, Messi would surely have to be the better bet.

There's no doubt that Roberto Soldado, Falcao and Karim Benzema are all top strikers, but their prices indicate that they are not in the running this year. Benzema suffers from the presence of Higuain, but also the same problem as the Argentine in terms of rotation.

Crucial part of season now for La Liga big guns...

As La Liga well and truly passes the half way point, every game is as crucial as the next as the battle for top honours continue.

Perhaps none more critical at this stage than Barcelona's next two opponents in 2nd and 1st placed Valencia and Athletico Madrid.

"I would say this is the season on the line in these next 2 games". Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said as he left training yesterday.

"Its been a battle but we feel we can still win everything on offer this year."

A loss against either side will most certainly spell the end for Barcelona and the trailing pack including traditional rivals Real Madrid, even with so much football left to play.

Barca looking the goods

It's only early days in the new season but Barcelona finally seem prepared to win their first La Liga title since the now infamous treble victory all those seasons ago.

Barcelona have sat among the leaders all season thus far and haven't suffered to same 'slump' as main title contenders Real Madrid, although some suggest this could be just around the corner.

"All of a sudden they have dropped points against very weak opposition." An FPA consultant said.
"It could very easily turn into a slump if they start losing another one or two games in quick succession."

Barcelona have also shrugged off an early upset loss in the Champions League to win back to back against Salzburg and convincingly against Napoli.

"Tough Season" says JM

It started a tough season for one of Spain's big guns Real Madrid and it hasn't gotten any easier as we pass the first quarter mark of the new season.

"It's been a very tough start to the season." JM said after their 12th round victory.
"But it does look like things are improving and I am happy with the team at this point."
"We clearly had a poor pre-season in Australia and this hasn't helped us when the new season kicked off." He added.

All this as speculation continues as to the likely destination for JM next season as he has all but made up his mind of moving on next season.

"I definitely plan to test myself in counties like England and Italy over the next few years - I want to win silverware everywhere no!."

Reports have linked the Madrid boss to Manchester United, Tottenham and AC Milan recently. However a final decision isn't expected until seasons end.

Real Madrid currently sit 7th in La Liga.
